Mountain biking is an adventurous outdoor sport which involves riding mountain bikes in dangerous locations and sometimes it could be life threatening. But there are numerous ways that you can improve your mountain bike safety to make it enjoyable outdoor activity.

Follow these guidelines to make mountain biking a safe and enjoyable activity:

o Mountain biking gear: Always make sure that you wear helmet and other necessary safety gears for the conditions that you plan to ride in. Bike helmet provide important head protection as frequent fall occurs over rough, rocky, sandy mountainous terrain.
o	Always ride on open and approved trails: Check your park map brochures for approved trails. Riding off trails or skidding down slopes damages park resource creates erosion and also threatens other park user and wildlife.
o	Never ride beyond your control: Another most important mountain biking safety tips is that you need to learn to control your speed. Always make sure that you keep your speed at a level where you can quickly adjust to unforeseen obstacle or change in trail.
o	Slow down around blind corners: If you can not see past a corner you should always slow down, as you never know who or what is around it.
o	Carry necessary equipment: According to mountain biking expert there are certain equipments you must carry while going for mountain biking adventure. They are first aid kit (for minor scrapes and cuts), pump, pocket knife, pliers, extra tube, drinking water and food.
o	Plan ahead: Know your equipment, your ability and the area in which you are riding- and prepare accordingly. If you are going to unfamiliar location, study the map properly before going for a ride. Be self-sufficient at all the times, keep your bike in good condition, and carry necessary supplies.

Practically anyone can get on a bike and ride around their neighborhood, go across flat countryside or ride up and down hills, but when it comes to mountain biking, the rider should have certain skills before giving it a try.

Depending on how long you’ve ridden your bike, it’s quite possible that you do have these skills – so let’s just run through them.

1) Feel the pedals

Are you used to keeping your feet on your pedals at all times? Of course you are. But when you’re mountain biking (or doing stunts), feet come off the pedals… and have to be able to find them again without hesitation.

So practice taking your feet off the pedals and replacing them…this will instill “muscle memory” so your feet always will know where the pedals should be at any given time.

2) Shift the gears

If you live in a flat area, you probably don’t do a lot of gear shifting. This will change when you get on the slopes, so find yourself a hill near your home and practicing shifting as you go both up and down. Also, if you get tired just biking up a regular-sized hill, you’ll want to do some wind sprints up that same hill for a couple of weeks before you decide to take on a mountain.

3) Stand up for yourself

Most people sit on their bikes while they ride, but again, on a mountain bike you don’t have that luxury. You’ll be off your seat more often than not. So practice coasting along while standing, and then pedaling while standing….and don’t do it for just a few yards and then stop.

4) Before you go hurtling down

Mountain biking is a dangerous sport, and you should always wear a helmet, and knee and elbow pads. And when you’re practicing going over curbs – the same should apply.

You want to practice going up and over curbs to get the feel of doing it on a hill. You know your own bike best – exactly how high can an obstruction be before you can’t go over it with your bike? Probably about six inches.

Going off a curb is another thing entirely. As long as you have good balance and strong hands to keep your front tire straight, you can get quite a bit of “air” before hitting the ground again – but you need to know the ground you’ll be landing on to ensure that there’s no obstructions that will get in your way. So always ride a downhill trail relatively slowly the first time, before you go full out.

But back to practicing. Check out the curbs in your neighborhood, and – while wearing your safety gear and making sure there’s no traffic in the area – practice going over them at different speeds. If all the curbs are of the same height, you’ll have to increase them using man-made objects such as ramps. However… you learned to crawl before you could walk, and by the same token, become very comfortable on those short curbs before you try to increase the height and air of your jumps, and always wear your safety gear while you do it.

There’s no need to be impatient. Work on your skills first, then tackle a beginners mountain biking trail or two to perfect your skills even more. Once you’ve got the skills, mountain biking will be a breeze!

During Christmas time, it has been a tradition for families to go skiing but wouldn’t it be too good to be true if you and your family will hike the mountains for a ski? Or if you are too daring and bold, why not aim the Everest – of course, it will certainly give you the chill and ecstasy that you are looking for.

Let me go on a detail by detail discussion about skiing – its meaning, the things use to ski, and of course the places where you should try your fun skiing activity. This article is designed for the ski addicts and the future ski addicts (after reading this, you’ll definitely gonna list down skiing as one of your activities this winter).

What is Skiing?

Skiing is the employ of skis – a slim foot gears that are lengthy to trek on the snow. The earliest form of skiing is listed down in Nordic Mythology. There are different kinds of skiing; it can be Nordic, alpine, freestyle, or military.

What are the Equipment that I Should Use for a Ski?

1.	Helmets

Head coverings Put on a helmet, especially on children – you would not predict what sort of mishap will occur. It is wiser to be prepared than be sorry that an accident ruined your family escapade.

2.	Coats for the chilly environment

Put on ski jackets to avoid extreme cold while skiing. The temperature in the mountain including the frosty snow will absolutely chill every part of you.

3.	Pre-Ski Preparations

Have a brisk walk before skiing. It needs greater demands for oxygen when you are skiing especially because of the high elevation and also because it is snowing.

4.	Boots

Wear protective boots instead of regular shoes. Ski boots are intended for skiing, therefore, it will make the activity more comfortable and hassle free.

5.	Skiing equipment

Make sure that the device is sharpened and there are no dents. If you don’t ski on a regular basis, then, it will be more practical for you to just rent whenever you need one.

6.	Ski Pants

There are pants intended chiefly for skiing. Ski pants will not be soaked in snow. They are made of cotton and they are very comfortable to wear.

7.	Specs

The goggles will help us see clearly even if there is a gusty snow.

8.	Garb in layers

Having clothes on that are layered will guard us from the freezing atmosphere while skiing.

9.	Walkie Talkies

To easily hunt down the location of each other, you should use mobile communication device such as walkie-talkie.

10.	Scarf

Scarf for additional cold protection. You can also wear gloves and bonnet.

The Thrill – Where to get It?

Some of the great skiing spots that you can try are Tegelberg mountain located at Schwangau Germany which is great for beginners because it has ski schools, Buchenberg (1140m) Ski Area at Buching Germany where you can find a double seater lift, Alpspitz (1575m) Ski Arena at Nesselwang Germany for advanced skiers, and Hahnenkamm Ski Resort (1900m) at Reutte Austria where you can find the best ski schools for adults.

Whatever skid fad you are looking for, you must always be careful in selecting the device to use and the place to visit. It always depends if you have children with you. Safety is a paramount that you should take into consideration.

Mountain climbing is a sport that uses many different types of mountain climbing gear to make sure you are safe while you are braving this sport. Choosing the proper gear can be confusing and it is important to make sure the gear you use is durable and reliable. Both of these things are of the utmost of importance and much more significant than how fancy or high end the mountain climbing gear is that you are using. Of course, you should not just go out and buy the cheapest products you can find. What you should do is buy good gear from reputable manufacturers. If you have a friend who has already done mountain climbing, talk to them and ask their advice. They will be able to give you helpful hints. And even you do end up purchasing some gear that you are not happy with, you can sell it on an online auction like eBay.

There are some mountain climbing gear items that you will definitely need like climbing ropes. These ropes are so essential for your safety. They are made from braided nylon fibers and should be strong and able to hold your weight. There are two types of climbing ropes that are used. The dynamic rope you purchase should be able to stretch under tension while the static rope does not have this capability; they are used in cases where a rope needs to be firm like during rappelling (the process of coming down a mountain).

The climbing harness is another type of mounting climbing gear. They provide security and support. These harnesses typically have a nylon belt that fits around your waist and a pair of leg loops for your thighs. The harnesses should also keep you comfortable. It is important to continue checking your harness for any type of deterioration and at the first sign, you should purchase a new one.

Climbing carabiners are a gated connecting device used to attach a rope to a fixed anchor. They are rings made of aluminum with a spring loaded gate. This type of mountain climbing gear has different variations and shapes. They are pretty inexpensive and they are strong and versatile.

Climbing helmets are essential when you are mountain climbing. They are made from plastic or fiberglass on the outside and they have an inner shell made of foam or a harness system. You want to be certain that your helmet is not too tight and that it is comfortable. Move your head around and get a feel for the weight of the helmet. It is good to test one out this way before you buy it. They should also have an adjustable chin strap and they should provide good ventilation.

These are a few of the mountain climbing gear you will need once you are ready to get started. Of course, you will also need things like the proper shoes and the proper clothing especially for climbing when it is cold.

If lately you have been seeing some extra inches around your middle or you are running out of breath halfway up the stairs, it may be time to add some exercise into your life. You can join a gym and spend a few hours a week going no where and staring at the wall or glaring mindlessly at a television. Or you can do what millions of Americans have already done… discover mountain biking.

Mountain biking allows you to shed pounds and improve your overall health while having a great time! If this sounds like something that interests you then it’s time to begin. The first thing you will need to do is purchase your gear. Depending on your expendable income, you will need to set a budget. While some people are content to give up their cars and throw caution to the wind, others will want to add a bike into their lives as an extracurricular activity. If this is the case, you will first need to set a budget. You can buy mountain bikes ranging anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars. It all depends on your budget and your preferences. Be sure to enlist the help of a seasoned mountain biker or a knowledgeable sales person when purchasing your bike. You will also need to purchase safety gear such as a helmet, eye protection, proper clothing and proper shoes. If you will be transporting your bike, a car rack is an essential as well. A good sporting equipment store should be able to provide you with all of these. The internet is also a fabulous resource for information and great deals.

Once you have the right gear, you will need to develop some basic skills for mountain biking. Keep in mind that you will be going over rougher terrain then you would on a regular bike. You should start out with small rides and work yourself up to longer more challenging ones. Attempting a difficult trail before you are ready is a sure fire way to injure yourself and turn yourself off to mountain biking.

After you have been mountain biking for awhile and are comfortable with it, you may want to try a mountain biking vacation. This type of trip can take you to as exotic a location as you would like and will usually last approximately 2-3 days. What better way to see the world while staying fit and active! However you choose to incorporate mountain biking into your life, it will be one of the best decisions you have ever made.

It is without a doubt that one of the most popular and enjoyable endeavor nowadays is doing some cross country forays on your mountain bike. Cross country cycling allows you give a full body workout to your physique, condition your mind, sharpen your focus, build up your strength, bolster your stamina, and pacify your emotions. In order to fully enjoy these benefits, you must also properly equip your mountain bike to prepare it for the long route you intend to traverse. One of the things that you must carefully consider is the type of tires that you want your mountain bike to have. Bear in mind that there are different tires for various types of tracks and it is important to first know which of these tracks you would be traversing.

Size

The size of the tire generally depends on the rim that it will be attached to. There are some rims that are designed for narrower wheels which may do well on an even and flat surface and there are some rims which allow wide tires to be mounted on it. If you plan to go on a cross country cycling adventure with your mountain bike, it is always a good idea to select a rim which would allow for the widest wheel to be mounted. This is because you get to encounter a lot of tracks in a cross country expedition and most of these paths require wide wheels to allow for maximum stability, balance, strength, and gripping power.

Traction

Another important thing to consider when you plan to go on a cross country tour with your mountain bike is the type of traction the tires should have. The traction on the tires is very important since it is the very part that grips on the surface that the bike is running on. Since there might be some areas where you may encounter dirt roads or loose soil, it is important to have a wide tire with prominent treads for greater traction and grip.

Tubeless

Tubeless tires are preferred by most cycling enthusiasts to be mounted on their mountain bikes. This is due to the fact that tubeless tires can deal with small punctures that the wheel on your mountain bike may encounter as you go along your cross country cycling trip. With a tubeless tire, you can rest in the notion that you do not have to wait for someone else to rescue you when your tire tube accidentally got itself punctured.

Mountain bike tires can make a lot of difference when it comes down to the power that you want your bicycle to have. It is therefore important to know which of the tires would best suit the path that your mountain bike will be traversing on to enable it to have the optimum power that you need.

Mountain biking and road biking have their similarities and differences, and likewise, the clothing worn for mountain biking and road biking have similarities and differences too. Whatever type of biking you do, your three most important clothing considerations are safety, comfort, and weather-appropriateness.

Mountain biking encompasses off-road biking from gentle towpaths to rugged ascents and descents. Whether you ride full suspension mountain bikes or hard-tail mountain bikes you know that no matter how well your ride absorbs the shocks of the terrain, your clothing should be geared toward your safety and comfort since you almost certainly won’t be spending much time gliding over butter-smooth roadways.

You want your mountain biking clothing to “breathe” and to wick away the sweat that you will soon work up. Since mountain biking is more of a warm-weather sport, jerseys and shorts will be the mainstay of your clothing. Lightweight jerseys that include storage pockets for your sunblock stick and energy bars are popular. Many off-road bikers prefer looser jerseys than those worn for road biking. Your shorts should minimize chafing and have reinforcement on the backside and inner thighs.

Even if you go mountain biking in cooler weather, you’ll still want moisture-wicking clothing, though you’ll also want weather protection and insulation. Most people prefer padded traditional cycling shorts, or baggy shorts with a padded, stretchy liner built in. The outer fabric of your shorts should be durable, because you can count on them getting snagged by the occasional branch or stick. Most biking clothing lends itself readily to layering, which is the key to staying comfortable in cool weather riding.

Comfortable biking shoes are popular since you’ll often hit terrain where you’ll have to dismount and carry your bike. Good gloves will help absorb terrain shock, and glasses will keep your eyes safe from kicked-up stones and low-hanging branches.

As for road bike clothing, Lycra shorts with padding are essential. You can wear them with tights or leg warmers when it’s cold out. Undervests with long sleeves are a good start for cold weather road biking, and like with mountain biking, layering is the key to maximizing your comfort. You’ll want fabrics next to your skin that wick away the sweat, even in cold weather, because cold sweat against the skin in winter is brutal! If your jersey has a pocket, you can use it to carry a waterproof jacket that folds up small. That way you’ll be prepared for rain showers.

Be sure you take care of your extremities during cold weather road riding, because your hands and feet are first to feel the cold. A racing cap worn under your helmet can help keep your head warm, and cycling gloves with padded palms will protect and warm hands. As for feet, some cyclists buy a second, larger pair of shoes for cold weather riding to make room for wearing an extra pair of socks. Thermal overshoes are also available to help keep feet warm.

And though it should go without saying, all cyclists should wear a helmet. You only get one brain, and you need to protect it. Your helmet must be fitted properly, or else it cannot protect your head properly. So before you kit yourself out from the neck down, make sure you have a top quality, properly fitted helmet.

Buddha Mountain. Sight seeing in Pattaya. What to do on holiday in Pattaya.

Many people who come to holiday in Pattaya think that the only entertainment is to be found in the bars and on the beach.

But just outside of Pattaya is a whole host of interesting places to visit which will make your holiday to Pattaya so much more memorable. In the 30 plus years since Pattaya has become a holiday destination many sightseeing attractions have been developed to cater today’s modern tourist.

Outside of Pattaya are many interesting places to visit, which will let you experience the many wonders of Thailand and Thai culture without having to stray too far from Pattaya. Pattaya is fast becoming the number one holiday destination in Thailand. The sand on the beach may not be as white as Phuket’s beaches but with Pattaya being so close to Suvarnabhumi airport, Bangkoks international airport, less than 145Km away and the cost’s of hotels and holiday rentals in general being so much cheaper than in Phuket many are choosing to come to Pattaya.

Pattaya has many attractions, such as:

Sailing
Buddha Mountain
Archery
Horse riding
Elephant riding
Pattaya floating market
Under water world to name but a few.

This article is focusing on the Buddha mountain and Silver lake vineyard.

Buddha mountain located outside Pattaya going South towards Ban Sare. Approximately 16 Km from Tesco Lotus South Pattaya.

Entrance is free to this beautiful park and cultural icon.

Buddha mountain is so named after an image of the Lord Buddha has been carved into the side of the mountain face. Unlike most Buddha images the largest is not a statue, but a cliff face inlaid with gold leaf in the outline of a sitting, Sukhothai-era Buddha. It is 130 meters tall, 70 meters wide, and can be seen from many miles away. The image and mountain are alternately referred to as “Buddha Mountain”, Khao Chee Chan, or “Phra Phuttha Maha Vachira Utta Mopas Sasada”.

In the park surrounding the cliff are a number of Salas provided for meditation and rest. Signs point you to the most scenic viewpoint of the image and to the “homage paying area”. Directly in front of the cliff face are shrines, elaborate gardens, and a number of terraced pools stocked with lotus flowers. Buddha Mountain a quiet, contemplative place and is a welcome break from Pattaya.

The Silver Lake Vineyard is conveniently situated next to the famous laser-sculptured Buddha image at Khao Chi Chan Cliff, so it is easy to see two attractions in one trip.

You can visit the vineyard by the free shuttle bus, or simply relax in the gardens looking down on the vineyard and across the lake. There are a number of basic food shops and of course you can have an ice cold drink of grape juice from the vineyard. The garden areas at Silver Lake Vineyard are relaxing, and superbly landscaped, with plenty of seating areas to either enjoy your snack or simply take in the views. Strangely there is no wine tasting allowed as the Thai government thinks it promotes alcoholism. But none the less still well worth the trip.

Just across the road from Buddha Mountain and Silver Lake you go Elephant riding or enjoy a meal at the Thai restaurant.

A visit to this beautiful park and vineyard is not only highly recommended, inexpensive but completely relaxing. Pattaya is a place full of surprises and attractions all you have to do is ask and you’ll experience a whole different side to Pattaya.

This article has been written by James Lamborn who has lived over 7 years in Pattaya and has broad based knowledge of the property rental market in Jomtien and Pattaya. He has found out, often the hard way where to rent and where to avoid. His articles are intended to give the reader the knowledge he has gained over the years and help them from making some of the same mistakes he and others have made.

When people go riding their mountain bikes off-road and into nature, they often forget to bring the correct gear. One of the most important things that people forget is to bring protective clothing. The issue here is a simple one and is completely understandable. When mountain biking, especially in a rugged area, a person will tend to really exert themselves. No matter how cold the temperature is, they will feel hot. They will then start to sweat and as a result get themselves and their clothing wet. Needless to say this is when the danger can set in. This is especially true if the individuals have traveled a long way into the course. So to address this concern a biker should really consider wearing or carrying the follow clothing items on their mountain bikes as they ride.

Footwear, especially socks is very important. The issue here is that in rugged terrain there is often the presence of water or even snow. Your feet, being closest to the ground and on the pedals, will be sure to pick up some the moisture and become wet. You might not feel it as first, but when the water mixes with cold weather, it will eventually take its toll. If you are far from your start point the trouble can be serious. To combat this it would pay to have an extra pair of socks to change into.

In a similar related area is the use of gloves. Much like the footwear it is important to make sure to have protection for your hands. Like your feet, once they become too cold it is hard to warm them up again. Needless to say, it becomes very hard to ride a bike once one’s hands have become numb. To address this it is a good idea to pack a pair of gloves in one’s supply pack. They are usually light weight and can really make the difference if the weather turns bad. One item to note though is that you must make sure your gloves will allow you to operate bike’s brakes and gears. The gloves must be both warm and functional at the same time.

Lastly, one of the biggest and most important pieces of clothing is the jacket or some sort of torso protection. People tend to not want to bring this article of clothing along as it can be hard to store and rather bulky. They assume they will be exerting themselves the whole time and their own body heat will keep them warm the entire ride. It is not hard to imagine a situation where one gets far out into the ride and the bike breaks down. The rider is no longer exercising so the body temperature will start to drop. Without the proper jacket of pullover one could find themselves in a serious situation.

In conclusion it is easy to see that if one is going to go on a mountain bike ride in an off-road area they need to be prepared. A little extra planning and the right mix of clothes might make the difference in a pleasant ride and a potentially dangerous situation.
